End of Semester

Hey Guys!

As you all know, i started this blog for for my FDOM class and this class is sadly coming to an end. It was so much fun writing this blog and i’m glad my professor made us do it. For this blog i am suppose to analyze my blogging experiences.

looking back at it now, i really think actively promoting your blog on social media is very important. I didn’t have a twitter prior to this class so i didn’t really have a lot of followers that could go view my post. I think just sitting there and hoping the world comes to you is a very ineffective way of getting views. I think one thing i would like to improve about my blog is consistency. I think it would be pretty cool if i consistently kept blogging. Also, the countries i talk about are all over the place, so maybe i could get a theme for a month and focus on that. This blog is definitely going to help me in future. As a PR major, i’m going to have to do a lot of writing and i think this is definitely good practice. Also, everyone in the world is turning more to social media except for me. This experience has forced me to understand how important social media is and important it is to know how to use it.

My most popular week was the week of October 12th to the 18th and i actually got three visitors and seven views. My most popular post was “travel travel travel!” and i got three views on that post. I think it was because i reviewed the blog of someone that is actuallScreen Shot 2015-12-06 at 10.23.00 AMy doing what most of us dream of doing.  I was really surprised to learn that people from Canada and England were viewing my post.

I am very grateful to have had this experience and because i loved it so much, i am going to try to keep blogging!!!!

My home Country!!

Hey Guys!

I’m really excited to talk about this but i figured it’s about time i convinced you guys to go visit my home country, Nigeria. I know i might be a little biased but i absolutely think that Nigeria would be a great destination. It is filled so many different cultures, there’re literally hundreds of different languages in Nigeria.

Nigeria has some of the biggest and craziest festivals to help showcase the different various cultures. These festivals go on for weeks, so yes we sure know how to party. Just walking on the street is an amazing experience because you get to see different people in their native attire.

Nigeria is also fortunate to have beautiful natural landscape. Aso rock, which is a really interesting landscape in the country’s capital. We also have Ashaka Gumti National Park, which is home to hundred of different

species. I would strongly recomend visiting the city of Lagos first , aka the New York of Africa, as that alone is an experience on its own!

Closer to home

Hey guys!

Today i am going to talk about a neighboring country, Mexico! Most people either think of Cancún or the drug war when they think about Mexico, but the truth is Mexico has so much to offer. We all know that Mexico is home to really beautiful beaches so we might as well start there. Beaches like ancient-mayan-ruins-by-tulum-mexico-beach Playa de Carmen and Cancun tend to be crowded for a reason, they are amazingly beautiful but for a little less crowded beach, people suggests Tulum.

I don’t know about you but i absolutely love Mexican food. I’m sure you all probably know how hard it is to get authentic Mexican food. Actually visiting Mexico would definitely solve that problem. Mexico is know for its colorful dishes. Getting really good food would be a great reason for me to travel, but that’s just me.

Monterrey, Mexico

Mexico is home to some of the best architectural sites in the world. This country is beaming with so much history. I can only imagine how amazing it would be to actually go see one of the pyramids. Mexicans are also said to be one of the nicest people in the world!

The great India!!

Hey guys!

me attempting to meditate.

me attempting to meditate.

One of my biggest dreams is to one day visit India. Weirdly enough, i grew up watching Bollywood movies and i fell in love with the culture at a very young age. So today i am going to share some of the reasons why i would love to go visit India. I just think India is the perfect place to go to gain so much knowledge and maybe pursue inner peace.

India is a geographically diverse land filled with amazing locations like the mountains of the himalaya, the the golden sands of the Thar desert and the Prinstine sandy beaches.  India, being home to one of the oldest civilization, has amazing architecture. There are so many historical sites around India and a lot of them are recognized as UNESCO world heritage sites.
The Forts, Palaces and Temples are characterized by their striking architectural features.

Another reason i would love to go to India is for the spiritual experience. Everyone knows that India is the birth place of various religions and philosophies. There are so many holy and spiritual cities in India to visit like sapta puri. I would honestly love to go India for meditation. My friends that went to India last summer said they really loved their meditation at osho meditation resort in Pune, india.

I don’t know if you guys have seen the new netflix series, Sense 8, that came out in the summer but it’s really good. What i really loved about it was that the characters were from different countries. Today i am going to talk about Kenya, which is where the character Capheus is from. A lot of people know Kenya to be a very poor country but Kenya is filled with unlimited natural beauties and amazing wild life.

Kenya is the home of wildlife safari, so it makes sense why there is literally an abundance of places in Kenya where you could go see different species of plants and animals. Because there is so many i will only name a few. The most popular would be Maasai Mara national Reserve, which is a game reserve. This park is known for its predator sightings. Amboseli National Reserve is the best place to go view large herds of Elephants up close.

To get a taste of the Kenyan life, i would suggests visiting Lamu. Lamu is a small island that is a UNESCO world heritage site. it is the oldest continually inhabited settlement in Kenya. It is also known for its beautiful beach. Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, is a great place to visit. This city is filled with so much history. Kenyans are known to be warm, friendly people that are proud of their culture. So if you are like me and obsessed with learning about other people’s culture, Kenyans will have no problem teaching you about theirs.

Caribbean Beauty (Dominican Republic)

Dominican Beach

Dominican Beach

Let’s talk about yet another beautiful Caribbean country, The Dominican Republic. I admit that i might be a tad bit obsessed with the Caribbean. There’s just so much to love about these little islands. Just like other Caribbean countries, Dominican Republic is home to beautiful sandy beaches. There’s so much to do there like white water rafting, waterfall climbing, surfing, parasailing, whale watching, etc.

Dominican Republic is home to so much history as that was the first colony established by Columbus. Santo Domingo, which is the biggest city in the country, was the first city established by Spain and therefore has so much history. This city is home to the first Cathedral, hospital and university in the Americas and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Santo Domingo is also home to many museums like Museo Alcázar de Diego Colón whose collections exhibitions shows important European renaissance art. Museo Alcázar de Diego Colón, as mentioned earlier, is the oldest cathedral in the Americas.

Dominican Republic is home to beautiful national parks. Eastern National park, which is also a UNESCO heritage site, is home to hundreds of species of plants and animals.  La Romana, which is on the southeast coast of the country, is home to the Altos de Chavón. Altos de Chavón is a replica of 16th century Artisans’ village and is one of the best places to shop for crafts. You cant’ completely talk about Dominican Republic with out talking about their festivals. They have so many festivals but the biggest one would be the carnival they have in February every year. The carnival is filled with different people and flamboyant costumes. It is truly beautiful and encourage everyone that can to attend.

Travel Travel Travel!!!

Hello guys!

Flora courtesy of Flora the Explorer

Today i am going to talk about something a little different. My professor gave us an assignment this week to review a blog that is kind of similar to ours. This was very hard to find because i mostly came across blogs that were more about traveling rather than focusing on each places.Luckily i came across someone who is basically living the life i want. Her name is Flora and she spends most of he time traveling the world. I could go on for days talking about how jealous i am of her life. She has travelled through Africa, Asia, South America, The Caribbean, The Middle East and Europe.

There’s something special about appreciating the little things in life and you can tell Flora does. She doesn’t just talk about the best places to go to, she also talks about the special moments that can occur there. I really enjoyed looking through her blog because she doesn’t just go to the typical places that you expect people to go to for vacation. It is clear that she doesn’t just travel, she also tries to emerge in the culture of wherever she goes.

Flora also tries to volunteer at the different countries that she visits. On her website she said, “I’ve found that volunteer work allows me to discover the essence of a country – and to connect with its people – like nothing else”. I someday hope to meet her because she seems like the kind of person you would want travel with. So guys, i really encourage you guys to visit Flora’s blog.

Until next time!

Deep in the heart of Jamaica

Welcome back!

sitting by the beach in Jamaica

sitting by the beach in Jamaica

Yes, today we are talking about Jamaica. lately i have expressed my intention to visit Jamaica with my best friend, who is Jamaican, and i have gotten very similar responses from people that have previously visited. They always start out by talking about the beautiful beaches and the interesting cuisines they tried, but they always end by stating how poor the country is. Just like most poor countries, Jamaica has cities that are usually occupied by tourists. Although most people consider Jamaica to be a vacation spot, they at times still find the need to bring up the fact that it is a poor country. Jamaica, in fact, has numerous tourist attractions.

let us start out by talking about the beautiful sandy beaches that are in this country. Negril and Montego Bay are said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and i agree! From the white beautiful sands to the gorgeous palm trees, these beaches have it all. They are also surrounded by many Resorts and restaurant which makes the location very convenient for tourists.

For all my nature loving fanatics, let us talk about the gorgeous Blue Mountains and John Crow Mountains National Park. The pictures that i’ve seen, because i haven’t actually been there, makes me want to grab my passport and hop on a plane immediately. It has a beautiful tropical rainforest, waterfalls, exotic plants and animals. This park is the natural habitat for more than 800 species. Another incredible natural attraction is the Dunn’s river falls which is the most popular natural attraction in Jamaica.

There are clearly so many more reasons to go to Jamaica other than the beaches and weather. If you need any more convincing remember that Jamaica is the home to Reggae music which says something about the people that live there. They are so much fun. I encourage anyone that can, to go visit this Jamaica.

Until next time!
